Lieve Monster

Short documentary, 2006, 10 min.

Davide, the director's young son, makes regular nocturnal appearances in his father's bedroom to complain about a monster in his room. Every time, with a camera that makes greenish night shots, the now wide awake director - speaking a mix of Dutch and Italian - follows him across the hall to the room that is inhabited by monsters. There, a recess or pillow is identified as the monster. The father advises his son to say 'go, monster'. But that does not solve the problem. The opening music and credits refer to science fiction and horror films from the fifties, the green night images intensify the alienating atmosphere. Because the father films the scenes himself, it seems as if Davide addresses the viewer directly.
