De Jantjes

Feature film, 1934, 88 min.

Upon its release, the 'first sound-film in the Netherlands' had to wait for the prestige project Willem van Oranje (G. J. Teunissen, 1934), but this flopped terribly. De Jantjes was a critical and commercial success. The first film from the Cinetone Studios ('Holland's Hollywood') is also the first Jordaan film, with a straightforward plot involving love, jealousy and unemployment among discharged marines, and sing-alongs like Omdat ik zoveel van je hou. In 2007 admitted to the "Canon van de Nederlandse Film", a list of the most important Dutch films.
