De beschaving en andere hersenspinsels beschouwd tijdens het maken van een uiterst kunstzinnige speelfilm

Documentary, 2009, 81 min.

This Dutch- and English-spoken behind-the-scenes account of Dick Tuinder's feature film Winterland is not a conventional making-of. The story of Winterland, involving Tuinder's fixture Sally, is largely ignored; the title is only mentioned after an hour. Director Kaganof (previously Ian Kerkhof) acts as a fly on the wall, his camera darting to and fro or tilted. But he also interviews members of the crew and cast, including actors Tom Jansen and Tara Elders, on themes like reality, life and the differences between the sexes. And he shows how set scenes using green screens, for added computer images, contrast with visibly hand-made scenic designs. For instance, we watch Tuinder freely painting a cardboard mountain landscape. Later on in the film, Tuinder proudly shows a newspaper article on his work in progress. In a far-reaching fusion of levels - augmented by this making-of - the article itself is incorporated in Winterland.
