Rotterdam rascal (played by the then 45-year-old actress Annie van Ees) escapes from a borstal and prowls around the harbour with his chum. The priest keeps believing in the scamp and manages to save the boy from many a tight spot. Film by melodrama specialist Douglas Sirk, who later became famous in the United States. At the time, the film was selected for the first Cannes festival in 1939, but as a result of World War II this event would never take place.
