Netherlands Film Fund
The Netherlands is home to a vibrant film industry with an open attitude towards international coproduction. The Netherlands Film Fund is the national agency responsible for supporting film production and film related activities in the Netherlands. Its focus is to develop and strengthen Dutch cinema and film industry both domestically and internationally.
Film Production Incentive
35% cash rebate
The Film fund operates a cash rebate incentive of 35% on qualifying production costs spent on parties subject to Dutch taxation for feature films, feature length documentaries, feature length animated films, high-end series and single episodes.

How much can be applied for:
- The grant can go up to 3M euro per film and is determined by the eligible production costs to be directly spent on parties subject to Dutch taxation, multiplied by 35%.
How to access and primary conditions:
- Applications must be submitted by a production company that has operated consistently in the area of production and release in the Netherlands, the EU, EEA or Switzerland, for at least 2 years.
- An independent production company (a legal entity, so not a one-man business or general partnership) that has been based in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a member state of the EU or the EEA or Switzerland for at least two years and that produces and exploits films and other audiovisual productions on a continuous basis. The production company will be represented by a producer who, in the seven calendar years prior to the application, has had prime responsibility for realising a minimum of one majority film production (reference film) with a production budget of not less than 500,000 euro and a cinema release in the Netherlands.
- The Netherlands is one of the countries of origin among the co-producers.
- For feature films and feature length animated films the minimum production budget is 1.000.000 euro and for feature length documentaries 250,000 euro.
- At least 50% of the financing should be committed upon application.
- A minimum eligible spend of 150,000 euro is required for feaurire films and animation features. For documentaries a minimum eligible spend of 100,000 euro is required.
- The film production should be completely financed within 6 months of the Fund’s decision on an application.
- 30% cash flow advance payment of the contribution is possible after signing the production agreement.
- Eligible applications are ranked based on a points system, a minimum of 75 points out of 210 is required.
- For Dutch minority co-productions a theatrical release in the country of origin of the main producer and at least a nontheatrical release in the Netherlands is required.
- Applying for only post-production activities is also possible.

How much can be applied for:
- The maximum grant 3M euro per series is determined by the eligible production costs to be directly spent on parties subject to Dutch taxation, multiplied by 35%.
- The applicant is legally represented by an independent producer who, as majority producer, was responsible for at least 1 high end series or single episode or 1 film
production (reference film with a budget of min. 500.000 euro) over the past 7 years. - These television series must have been distributed by Dutch broadcasting parties or by video on demand platforms publicly accessible in the Netherlands.
- The Netherlands is one of the countries of origin among the co-producers.
How to access and primary conditions:
- At least 50% of the financing should be committed by third parties upon application.
- Applications can be submitted by a production company that has operated consistently in the area of production and release in the Netherlands, the EU, EEA or Switzerland, for at least 2 years.
- A minimum eligible spend of 15% of the total production budget is required.
- The series should be completely financed within 6 months of the Fund’s decision upon an application.
- Eligible applications are ranked, based on a points system. A minimum of 75 points out of 210 is required.
- A series must be distributed by Dutch broadcasting or by video on demand platforms publicly accessible in the Netherlands.
- Even after shooting is completed, application is possible for postproduction activities.
