Videoletters - Ivana & Senad

Short documentary, 2005, 24 min.

Videoletters was the first TV series that was broadcast in all former Yugoslav republics: Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Kosovo and Macedonia. In twenty episodes of thirty minutes, contact is renewed between people who were separated by the war. The filmmakers first interview the person who is looking for someone and make him record a `video letter', looking into the camera. These emotional messages contain hope, fear, prejudices and sympathy. Videotapes in hand, the filmmakers start a search, driving across former Yugoslavia. The `addressee' is also interviewed and, as an answer, also records a video letter. Next, the filmmakers try to set up a meeting. In addition to the video productions, the project comprises radio broadcasts, Internet discussions and school kits. The festival screens three episodes. The Serbian Sasja is looking for his best friend Emil, who fled to Holland, a Muslim who has heard bad stories about Sasja. And Vlada and his family from Belgrade are afraid that Ivica and his family in Zagreb ostracise all Serbians now.
