Mississippi Masala
The theme of this feature film is an interracial conflict between an Indian immigrant family and African-Americans in the southern state of Mississippi. Protagonist is the beautiful 24-year-old Mina, who along with her parents was exiled from Uganda in 1972, under Idi Amin's regime. Now, she runs a motel with her father and mother. When Mina falls in love with a black man, it evokes racist reactions from within the Indian community. For her father, it stirs up painful memories of Uganda.
