Mies en Lène en de bonbons
Black-and-white promotional film from 1925 by the Rotterdam-based Ringers chocolate factory, in which the manufacturing process of chocolate bonbons is shown. On a Rotterdam tennis court, Mies and Lène are offered Ringers bonbons by some friends. The way to feast secretly and boundlessly on these delicious chocolates is by taking a holiday job as a packager at the Ringers factory. When Mies and Lène are working in the packaging department, to their great alarm one of their tennis friends is given a guided tour of the factory. For ladies of their class, this is a serious disgrace! By means of the guided tour, the film shows all facets of the production process, from cleaning, sorting and shelling the cocoa beans to the pretty packaging of the bonbons and chocolate. The film, lacking dialogue, inadvertently presents a remarkable idea of social relationships in the twenties.
