Film version of George Büchner's novella about the poet Jacob Lenz (1751-1792), who was very over-sensitive. He was not even able to find a cure for his psychiatric problems in the mountains, where he was taken care of by a friend. The situation even got worse, until Lenz eventually degenerated into total apathy. Gerard van den Berg won in 1971 the German Film Prize for his camera-work for the film.
