Voorland Documentary film, 2005, 70 min.

For seven years, directors Albert Elings and Eugenie Jansen filmed in the Loowaard foreland that borders on the Nederrijn river at Duiven. Inserts chronologically mark the passing years. At the end of year one, a sign is unveiled: `Set foot on this rough territory at your own peril'. The documentary is largely wordless and has no voice-over or soundtrack. The camera is a visitor, reaping images in an area under constant change. Panoramic views resembling moving paintings, of a man and his dog crossing a bedewed landscape or of a herd of wild horses, are alternated with close-ups of plants and animals. We see nature, sheep, reed borders, patches of land disappearing under water. But man is never far off. Someone traverses the grounds making notes. Farmers dread the rampant growth of thistles. People camp in the area to protest against the intended Betuwelijn railway. School children make a field trip, bringing their exercise books. And the wild cows and bulls get yellow earmarks.
