After Agresti's previous, often politically charged films, his feature film Valentín is an autobiographical work about one year in his childhood. The story is set in Buenos Aires in the sixties and is told from the perspective of the nine-year-old Valentin. Valentín lives with his old and ailing grandma since his mother abandoned him when he was three. His egocentric father (played by Agresti) is always on business trips or looking for a new girlfriend, but none of these relationships ever endures. This to the great disappointment of the lonely boy who longs desperately for motherly love. He shares his dreams of becoming an astronaut and having a real family with his friend Rufo. Valentín wants to know the truth about his mother's disappearance, but the adults shrink from talking about the past. When his grandma dies, Valentín realises that he has to strike out on his own if he wants to find answers to his questions.
