In the year 1942, in German-occupied Amsterdam, Walter Süskind works for the Jewish Council, the administrative body established by the Nazis to efficiently manage the deportation of Dutch Jews. As head of the Hollandsche Schouwburg, which the occupier had designated as a deportation centre, Süskind is responsible for a smooth flow of people. A devil of a job. Still he manages, by making shady deals with the SS and with the help of the Amsterdam Student Group, to save a group of adults and hundreds of children from deportation to the extermination camps. But when the round-ups are stepped up, Süskind - just as Jewish as the deportees - puts his family?s safety at risk. Heroic drama, based on historical events, about a human ray of hope on one of the blackest pages in Dutch history.
