Originally, the Hofvijver (Court Pond) was a kind of June Lake linked to Kijkduin. Now the strikingly square lake is most appealing because it is adjacent to the Dutch parliament, on Binnenhof. In June, a classic music festival is held on the Hofvijver, but there’s also the annual rowing regatta of the Hague Student Rowing Club Pelargos. At moments like this, politics is briefly forgotten... Checked fact: In the middle of Hofvijver is a mysterious and inaccessible island. It is 300 years old and covered in plants and trees.
