design factory "van nelle"

The appeal of Modernism in its ideal form. With the Van Nelle Factory, located beside the River Schie in Delfshaven, the architects Brinkman and Van der Vlugt were responsible for more than an international and hypermodern city of architecture. In 1932, Le Corbusier described the effect of light, air and space through the glass facades and transparent walkways in the factory as “the most beautiful creation of this era”. These days the Van Nelle factory is used as a creative centre. Checked facts: in 2008, the Design Factory was given the EU prize ‘Europa Nostra’ for the “quality of the renovation and exemplary reuse of this European Cultural Heritage”. The Van Nelle Factory has been nominated for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
