Colossal multifunctional building with a surface area of 131,000 m² (completed in 1995), in which both the City hall as the invisible library and the Hague Municipal Archives are located. The central hall is the largest atrium in the Netherlands. The rather sterile looking building by the American architect Richard Meier is also known as the Ice Palace because of its bright white colour and transparent structure. In the vicinity, the building is surrounded by large office blocks and futurist ministries, cultural institutions such as the Danstheater and Central Station. Checked fact: George Clooney was here, for the film Ocean’s Twelve (2004). The City hall featured as the headquarters of Europol.
